RELIGION & THE HUGHES FAMILY
Francis and Rose Hughes had five children, all of whom showed a strong inclination for the religious life. Although the family were devout Anglo-Catholics before Rose became seriously ill, her long sickness and early death seem to have greatly influenced the paths which her children took in life.
The oldest daughter Dorothy married a clergyman and had one son, Teddy, who also became a clergyman; the oldest son Francis became a Church of England priest; the third child, Margery, became an Anglican nun; the fourth child, Humphrey, became a Benedictine monk; and the youngest child, Kathleen, married a Church of England priest, though her second husband would be a very secular businessman.
